Delval Equipment supplied two high-efficiency Cleaver-Brooks CFC-E condensing boilers for a healthcare facility’s hydronic system upgrade in Cherry Hill, NJ, replacing existing non-condensing cast-iron boilers to improve system efficiency, controllability, and long-term reliability.
Our team assisted with system sizing and equipment selection and provided boiler startup and commissioning.
The upgraded system serves chiller reheat and space-heating loads, supporting improved energy performance and dependable operation throughout the facility.
A special shout-out to M. Davis & Sons for a great installation. Thank you for your attention to detail and quality workmanship.
HIGH-EFFICIENCY CONDENSING BOILERS
The Cleaver-Brooks CFC-E combines advanced heat transfer technology, durable construction, and integrated controls to support efficient hydronic system operation:
- Up to 99% operating efficiency: The patented TurboFer® heat exchanger maximizes heat transfer and supports high-efficiency condensing operation, with actual efficiency dependent on system operating conditions and return-water temperature.
- 10:1 fully modulating turndown: Allows boiler output to closely follow system demand, helping reduce cycling and associated burner wear.
- Duplex stainless steel construction: Provides resistance to corrosion from flue gas condensate and chloride stress cracking.
- High water volume and low waterside pressure drop: Each 2,500 MBH boiler holds 126 gallons, supporting variable-flow system designs while helping reduce pumping requirements.
- Integrated boiler controls: Lead-lag sequencing and automatic isolation valves support coordinated boiler operation while limiting idle-boiler mixing and standby losses.
PRIMARY VARIABLE SYSTEM DESIGN
The system uses a primary-variable pumping arrangement, with one set of system pumps serving the equipment on a common loop. Eliminating dedicated boiler pumps helps reduce equipment, piping, installation requirements, and pumping energy.
The CFC-E’s high water volume and low waterside pressure drop make it well suited for this type of variable-flow application.
LONG-TERM EQUIPMENT PROTECTION
The CFC-E is backed by extensive Cleaver-Brooks non-prorated warranty coverage, including:
- Lifetime thermal shock
- 15-year fireside corrosion
- 5-year burner canister
- 20-year condensate collection pan
- 2-year parts
Manufacturer warranty terms and conditions apply.
AIR AND DIRT SEPARATION
The Thrush Aar-O-Vent combines air and dirt removal in one compact unit, helping maintain clean system water and support dependable hydronic system operation.
EXHAUST STACK SYSTEM
Two 10-inch Van-Packer Model CM double-wall stacks were sized to support proper venting of the new condensing boiler system. Stack construction includes:
- VP1738 corrosion-resistant stainless steel inner liner
- 304 stainless steel outer wall
- 1-inch air gap
Thoughtful system design, properly selected equipment, and quality installation work together to support efficient, reliable heating for this healthcare facility.
